Hai has lectured widely on Chinese classical and contemporary ceramics, and has been an artist-in-residence at the European Ceramic Work Centre (EKWC) in the Netherlands, the Clay Studio in Philadelphia, and at A.I.R. Vallauris in France.
Blue Shanghai White founder and chief designer; ceramic artist. Haichen’s work has won awards including Elle Decoration China Chair of the Year, and has been collected by museums including the China National Museum of Art and the Guangdong Museum of Art.
Her art works have been exhibited at Ariana (the Swiss Museum of Ceramics and Glass) in Geneva, at the international ceramics biennial in Vallauris, France, and in shows in the Netherlands and South Korea. Her design works have featured at design shows in China, Hong Kong and Japan, and in exhibitions of Chinese design at UNESCO in Paris, at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, and the 100% Design Show at London’s Earl’s Court.
In 2015 Blue Shanghai White’s “Douli” chair – inspired by the shape of a traditional Chinese bowl – was voted ‘Best Chair’ at 100% Design by AD (Architectural Digest) magazine’s Chinese edition. In 2013, the Aurora Museum of Art in Shanghai held a retrospective exhibition celebrating ten years of Haichen’s furniture design – the first time this prestigious institution had featured a contemporary Chinese designer.
